• Mikasa Dinnerware, America’s Success Story

Mikasa dinnerware is not actually manufactured by Mikasa, but under license to over 25 countries worldwide.

Setsuo Aratani, an American-Japanese traded as All Star Trading, an import export enterprise before the war. The war in 1941 abruptly stopped his successful trading between the two countries.

The name Mikasa was chosen after world War ll, by Setsou’s son George, along with his partner, Alfred Funabashi, reviving the company and calling it Mikasa, that, in Japanese means three umbrellas.

This was probably chosen as they first dealt in frozen tuna, toys, and later china imported from Japan.

The Mikasa company grew over the years and greatly developed the china manufacture side, franchising it to several chain stores on the East Coast of America.

Alfred Blake joined the company as a sales representative in Canada and became president when Alfred died in 1976.
